New Delhi : The Indian National Congress named five times MP from Berhampore constituency Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury as its leader in Lok Sabha , after failing to convince Rahul Gandhi to take up the post . Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury is the five times MP of Congress since 1999 .He currently represents the Berhampore Lok Sabha Constituency in Murshidabad district , West Bengal. Top party sources said on Tuesday , Adhir Chowdhury’s name was cleared by the top party leadership after which a letter of his appointment was handed over to the Lok Sabha Secretariat .
Adhir Chowdhury told to ANI that “I have been given this responsibility (the leader of Congress in Loksabha) . I was asked to stand in the front. I said okay. I am a foot soldier and foot soldiers stand in front . So i will fight as a foot soldier .”

Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury is the five times Member of Parliament from Berhampore Constituency . He has also been a member of State Assembly from 1996 to 1999. He has been the chief of West Bengal Congress , besides also being the Minister of State for Railways between 2012 to 2014 during the UPA Government-2. Mallikarjun Kharge was the leader of the Congress in the 16th Lok Sabha but he lost the election this time , forcing the party to decide on another name .
Along with Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury , Kerala leader K Suresh, party spokesperson Manish Tewari and Thiruvanthapuram’s MP Shashi Tharoor were reportedly in the running for the post . But , Adhir Chowdhury (well known as the Robinhood of Murshidabad) selected for the party leader post due to his 5 times membership experience . Really , this is a big achievement for Bengal too. Because , this first time in history, Indian National Congress (INC) selected a member from Bengal as their Party leader.
