‘Soorma Bhopali’ Jagdeep dies at 81
Mumbai : Veteran Bollywood actor, well known as ‘Soorma Bhopali’ Jagdeep passed away today at the age of 81. His real name was Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed Jafferi. He started Bollywood as child artist and had a career spanning over 6 decades and acted in more than 400 films.
Jegdeep was the father of actor Javed Jafferi and television host Naved.
He started his career as a child artist in 1951’s film ‘Afsana’. The most poplar comedian went on the work in more films like Ab Dilli Door Nahi, Munna, Aar paar and Do Bigha Zameen as the child actor.

Later, he started his profession acting career as a lead actor in the Bollywood with films such as Bhabhi, Barkha and Bindya.
However, Jagdeep got frame as a comedian actor with 1968 film Brahmachari that had Shammi Kapoor in the lead. His big break came in the form in 1975’s film ‘Sholay’ that made his character ‘Soorma Bhopali’ memorable. Later, he also directed a film titled ‘Soorma Bhopali’ .in which he played the lead role.
