WB Gov Appoints Manas Kumar Sanyal as new VC of Kalyani University

Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar has not yet approved Search Committee’s proposal

Kolkata : Higher Education Department, Government of West Bengal, on Friday, has released a notification (Order No 179L/OM-118L/2020 Dated-18.12.2020) related appointment of new Vice-Chancellor of University of Kalyani (KU). According to the order, Dr. Manas Kumar Sanyal has been appointed as new V.C of Kalyani University.

The Order read ” Whereas, the term of existing Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sankar Kumar Ghosh is going to expire on 20.12.2020 upon completion of 4 years term”

“Whereas for the purpose of appointment of regular Vice Chancellor of Kalyani University the state Government has constituted a Search Committee vide the Department’s order No 898-Edn (U) dated 16.10.2020, and “

“whereas the search Committee has recommended a panel of three names where Prof. Manas Kumar Sanyal, Professor of Business Administration, Kalyani university has been recommended in the first position of the panel, and”

On the recommendation of the Search Committee, the Higher Education department of West Bengal Government has appointed Dr. manas Kumar Sanyal as the Vice- Chancellor of the Kalyani University for a period of four years or till be attain the age of seventy years or until further order, wherever is earlier.

The order also read that Governor of West Bengal and the Chancellor of Kalyani University Mr. Jagdeep Dhankar has not yet approved the Department’s proposal related K.U new V.C recruitment.

However, by the provision of section 56 of the Kalyani University Act, 1981, in order to remove the difficulty arise due to non approval of the panel by Hon’ble Chancellor till today, and therefore the State Government has appointed new V.C of Kalyani University as per the provision of the section 9 (1) of the Kalyani University Act, 1981 and in exercises of the power conferred by section 56 .

Meanwhile, Dr. Swarup Chakraborty has been appointed as new V.C of Uttar Banga Krishi Viswavidyalaya (UBKV).

Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar tweeted “In exercise of powers u/s 25(2)(a) of Uttar Banga Krishi Viswavidyalaya Act, Dr. Swarup Chakrabarti has been appointed as Vice Chancellor of UBKV for four years from the date of joins the post or till he attains age of 65 years, whichever is earlier”
