President Murmu, PM Modi express grief over death of brave Army Jawans
Gangtok, Online Desk: Sixteen Indian Army soldiers, including three junior officers, were killed and four others serious injured in a tragic road accident at Zemma in North Sikkim on Friday. The vehicle was part of a three-vehicle convoy that had moved from Chatten in the morning towards Thangu. Enroute at Zema, the vehicle feel into a deep gorge, a ministry of defence spokesperson said.
“A rescue mission was immediately lunched, and four junior soldiers have been air evacuated. Unfortunately three junior commissioned officers and 13 soldiers succumbed to the injuries sustained in the accident” the Indian Army said in a statement.
President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh condoled the loss of lives in the accident.

The Indian Army would pay tributes to the deceased personnel on Saturday at Bagdogra Airport in West Bengal.
“The mortal remains wreath laying will be done at Bagdogra Airport technical area between 12:30-14:00 hours”, Army spokesperson said.
