Mamata Banerjee formed a Doctor’s committee to audit Covid death

Berhampore : On a video massage, the member of Parliament from Berhampore Lok Sabha constituency (Murshidabad) Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury added ‘what is the reason for hiding corona information ? He said “The West Bengal Government is trying to cover up the actual number of corona cased. but in whose interest ?”

Yesterday, the WB Government instituted audit committee has concluded that out of the total 57 deaths of the people tested positive for novel coronavirus in the state, only 18 of them can be attributed to Covid-19 while the remaining 39 deaths were due to severe co-morbid conditions of the patients .

On April 5, the West Bengal government formed a committee of five doctors who will decide the actual cause of death . Yesterday , the panel set by Mamata Banerjee’s government, after examining the 57 cases of deaths of persons who had tested positive for covid-19 had submitted its findings to the state government.

Not only Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, earlier Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) has also raised doubts over the methodology adopted by the state government audit committee in ascertaining the number of deaths due to novel coronavirus in the state. On a official letter , IMCT asked –

• Government order constituting the committee of doctors to declare cause of death for COVID patient
• Case records of all Covid patients where cause of death is attribute to some other cause by the committee
• Time taken by the committee in coming to its conclusion
• Whether such a committee to ascertain cause of death exists for any other disease in the State of West Bengal
• Whether such a committee is line with ICMR guidelines or medical practice .

It may be noted that majority of Coronavirus deaths worldwide have co-morbid conditions, like heart, kidney and lung ailments, diabetes, high blood pressure etc. But such deaths are still considered as caused by the Coronavirus, as the co-morbid conditions are usually long-term, and people die because of the added complications and reduced immunity caused by the virus. But the West Bengal government has decided to define Coronavirus death differently than the rest of the world.

Today, on a video massage , PAC Chairman Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury asked “why Mamata government trying to cover up covid data ?”
