Congress expels Golaghat MLA Ajanta Neog for ‘indulging in anti-party activities’

Assam Ex-minister Ajanta Neog may join BJP

Guwahati: Amid rumors of Golaghat MLA Ajanta Neog joining the BJP, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Friday announced that Neog has been officially expelled from the party’s primary membership for ‘indulging in anti-party activities’.

The four time MLA from Golaghat Assembly constituency had recently met Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and North-East Democratic Alliance convener Himanta Biswa Sharma.

Following her meeting with them, Neog has asked by the party’s state unit to show cause why action would not be taken against her. APCC General Secretary Ranjan Bora said Ajanta Neog was expelled from the party.

All India Congress Committee’s (AICC) General Secretary K.C. Venugopal, On December 25, issued a letter that read “Hon’ble Congress President has approved the proposal of expulsion of Smt. Ajanta Neog, MLA, Assam from the primary membership of the party for indulging in anti-party activities with immediate effect.”

Smt. Neog is likely to join BJP in presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Guwahati on December 26. Apart from Ajanta Neog, few other Congress MLAs are also likely to join the saffron party.

Amit Shah is expected to arrive in Guwahati on Friday night.
