Berhampore : Hundreds of local villagers of Domkal Municipality blocked the Domkal-Berhampore State Highway near Kuthimore on Wednesday morning , demanding food and money for their survival. These villagers , mostly are daily earning labourers, lost work due to the nationwide lockdown imposed by Central & State Government to combat against novel coronavirus.
The District Magistrate of Murshidabad, Jagadish Prashad Meena , rushed to the spot with a huge police force to disperse the mob. They tried to make them aware of the danger and life risk if they assemble together like this without wearing masks.
Women and children were in the forefront of the protest. The villagers alleged that the local TMC Councilor Malina Bibi and her husband did not distribute relief materials to them. Local ration dealer had distributed 1 kg rice and 1 kg wheat to each of the affected labourers , but the stock has finished users had demonstrated in front of the local councilor’s house and later they shifted the protest to the highway.
I have sought details from the SDO regarding the present sitation in Domkal .

Mr. Islam promised to the mob that he would distribute 10 kg rice and 5 kg potato and wheat to their families. However, the labourers withdraw the protest following the assurance from the Chairman.
