Tamil Nadu promotes all semester students to new class

Chennai : Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, on Thursday, said that all UG, PG college students will be promoted to next year without having to take up even semester examinations for the academic year 2019-2020. The CM stated “These students are exempted from writing the semester examinations. They should be awarded marks followed by UGC and AICTE guidelines”

First and second year under graduate (2nd & 4th Sems) and first year of Post Graduate students has been promoted to next academic year.

The state Government had formed an 11 member expert panel to finalise the modalities for conducting the semester exams.

The Tamil Nadu government said that further details regarding semester exams and final year exams will be announced later.

However, the TN government could not cancel the final year/ final semester examination due to the direction from University Grants Commission (UGC). TN Universities says there was no bar in conducting the final year exams. They are preparing to conduct the final year (UG 3rd year & PG Final year) examinations.
