Twitter India restores Hansraj Meena’s account
Twitter withheld multiple prominent accounts on ‘proper request’
Twitter India on Monday blocked around 250 accounts on its platform on the ‘proper request’ of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India.
Some of the accounts withheld include those of Caravan magazine, Kisan Ekta Morcha, Hansraj Meena, actor Sushant Singh, Tractor to Twitter and few others which were managed by representatives of the agitating farmers.
Explaining its decision, Twitter said that it becomes necessary to withheld access to certain content if an authorized entity submits a properly scoped request.
“In our effort to make our services available to people everywhere, if we receive a properly scoped request from an authorized entity, it may be necessary to withhold access to certain content in particular country” said Twitter in a statement as quoted by ANI.
“Transparency is vital to protecting freedom of expression, so we have a notice policy for withheld content. We will promptly notify affected account holders” said Twitter.
However, after huge social media trend against Twitter’s decision of account suspension, the social media giant restored few accounts. Hansraj Meena’s official Twitter account already restored.
