‘White Fungus’ infection is more deadlier- check why ?

Patna : Amid concerns over rising cases of “Black Fungus” in Covid-19 recovered patients; now four cases of ‘White Fungus’ infection, which is considered more deadlier than Black Fungus, have been reported from Patna, Bihar. One of the infected patient is a famous doctor from Patna, reported.

According to health experts, White Fungus infection is more dangerous than black fungus infection because its affects lungs as well as other parts of body including nails, stomach, skin, kidney, brain, private parts and mouth.

Doctors said that white fungus also infect the lungs and the infection similar to Covid-19 is detected when HRCT is performed on the infected patient.

Meanwhile, Mucormycosis, also known as ‘Black Fungus’ or Zygomcosis, is caused by group of mold called mucormycetes.

This fungi live in environment, particularly in soil and in decaying organic matter, such as leaves, compost piles, or rotten wood, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

However, Dr. S.N. Singh, Head of Patna Medical College and Hospital’s Microbiology Department said that people with low immunity, diabetes, AIDS patient; those who have undergone Kidney transplant are more susceptible to this disease. He also pointed out that negligence while using oxygen cylinder for COVID patients can put them at risk of White Fungus.

The symptoms of White Fungus is similar to COVID and the infection can be diagnosed through CT-Scan or X-Ray, he added.
