Pudukkottai Rape : One arrested
Chennai : DMK President MK Stalin raised concerns over the safety of women and children in Tamil Nadu following the brutal incident in Pudukkottai district where a 7-year-old child brutally raped and murdered. Embal police already arrested a suspect . The accused was booked under IPC 376 (rape), 302 (murder), 364 (abduction), and 201 for misleading police.
The Police found during investigation that the child was spotted with Raja on the missing day. Police already booked him under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act and SC/ST (Prevention of atrocities) Amendment Act 2018.
The brutal incident revealed on July 1 , when a blood covered body of seven years old child was found in dry pond in Embal village of Aranthangi town of Pudukkottai district. During the investigation, it’s found that the culprit took the child to a secluded place and rapped her. He then killed her and threw her body near a dry pond near the house of victim.
The 7-year-old Pudukkaottai daughter went missing on June 30 following which her parents lodged a missing diary at Embal Police station.
After a search , they found the dead body with multiple injuries in a dry pool near the house of the victim’s family. They took the body to the Puddukkottai district hospital and the doctors confirmed the sexual assault before the brutal killing .
After the brutal incident aired, netizens flags #JusticeforJayapriya on social media. The National Commission of the protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has taken suo motu discernment of the issue and began investigations. It has directed the District Collector and SP to speed up the investigation.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami promised strict action against the culprit and also announced Rs.5 lakh ex-gratia to victim’s family.
