1100 migrant workers return to Murshidabad from Kerala ; watch video
Shramik Special Train : Kerala to Berhampore
Berhampore : Around 1100 migrant workers returned to Berhampore (West Bengal) from Tiruvananthapuram (Kerala) on Wednesday . After 40 days of lockdown, more than 1100 labourers who were stuck in Kerala , returned to their native district . Last night , at 8:30 PM , a Shramik (Migrants) special train arrived at Berhampore Court Railway station carrying stranded workers.
Their return home was arranged after the Centre’s recent order allowing migrants’ movement in a controlled manner amid the novel covid-19 outbreak. Earlier , Chief Minister of West Bengal Smt. Mamata Banerjee tweeted “as part of our promise to bring back citizens of Bengal stranded in other states, 2 special train from Ajmer and Kerala would leave tomorrow for West Bengal carrying more than 2500 migrants , pilgrims, students and patients . Everyone coming in to be screened as per protocols”

However, Murshidabad district administration and district health department made special arrangements for health examination of workers. Also Murshidabad Police arranged transport for the stranded people . The workers were advised to be in home quarantine for next 14 days.
Aminul Sk, One of the workers , told to Azad hind news , “We had gone to Kerala to work but got stuck due to the nationwide lockdown. It’s great relief to be back home after a long time . We are thankful to West Bengal Government and Kerala government for arranging our smooth transport.” he added “We are charged Rs.910 for the travel”
Earlier , Railway Ministry stated that “it is responsibility of the state government to arrange transport for the stranded people to reach railway stations. Similarly, at the destination station, the local administration will have to arrange for medical check-ups of passengers and their onward travel”

However, the Murshidabad district administration gave food packets and drinking water to each passengers. Also Murshidabad Police arranged buses from Berhampore Railway station to bring the workers to their native homes (Jiaganj, Kandi, Hariharpara, Beldanga, Lalgola, Jangipur, Sagardighi, Salar, Rehinagar etc) .
Also, leaders and workers of Murshidabad district Trinamool Congress provide basic food packets to the migrants and showers flowers on them. Sahanaj Begam, President of Murshidabad Mahila TMC , said “it is our duty to help poor and needy people . Hon’ble CM Mamata Banerjee always worked for them. The state government arranged a special train to bring back stuck workers from other states. We just following our CM. ”
