OPD with 8 wings to treat limited number of patients initially

Kalyani: The long wait is almost over. The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Kalyani is ready to become functional in January 2021 in a limited manner. Prof (Dr) Ramji Singh, Executive Director of AIIMS Kalyani said a limited OPD service of the department of Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Genecology, Ophthalmology, ENT, Psychiatry and Dermatology will start functioning from January 2021.

However, full-fledged OPD service is scheduled to start functioning from April 2021, he said.

According to him, the Indoor Patient Department (IPD) of AIIMS Kalyani may start from September 2021 with 300 beds but that depends on handing over the new building by the constructing agency.

The number of beds in the IPD will be increased later on, he added.

Meanwhile, owing to limited faculty strength, only a restricted number of outpatients will be registered every day until the fill-fledged OPD is formally inaugurated in April 2021.

AIMMS Kalyani will offer Medical Services in at least 40 departments, of which OPD services will be offered in at least 17 until they become completely operational in conjunction with super specialty services.

The AIIMS Kalyani is being developed on 197 acres of land of Kalyani’s Basantapur area in Nadia district of West Bengal. The estimated project cost is Rs.1200 crore.
