Mamata on Debdatta Ray’s death, ‘salute her spirit’
Deputy Magistrate Debdatta died of Covid-19
Serampore, Hooghly: A WBCS executive officer, Debdatta Ray, who was posted as deputy magistrate in Chandanngar, Hooghly district, has reportedly died on Monday following coronavirus positive treatment in a private hospital at Serampore, a WB health department official said.
According to official “The WBCS officer tested positive for the novel coronavirus last week and was on home isolation. She was hospitalized yesterday morning after she complained of breathing problems. She died today”
Debdatta Roy, 33, was a 2010 batch WBCS executive officer. She started her executive career as a BDO of Purulia-2 block .
Chief Minister of West Bengal Smt. Mamata Banerjee tweeted “grieved to hear about the untimely passing away of Debdatta Ray, who was posted as Deputy Magistrate and Deputy Collector in Chandannagar. A young WBCS (Exe) officer , she was the forefront fighting the pandemic and displayed outstanding devotion in discharge of her duties”
CM further said “I, on behalf of the Government of West Bengal, salute her and sacrifice she’s made in service of the people of #Bengal. Spoke to her husband today and extended my deepest condolences. May the departed soul rest in peace & lord give her family strength to endure this loss”
However, Debdatta Ray is the first senior government officer in West Bengal to have succumbed to coronavirus.
