Comrade Shyamal Chakraborty dies of coronavirus
Veteran CPIM leader Shyamal Chakraborty died
Kolkata: Veteran CPI(M) leader and former minister of West Bengal state, comrade Shyamal Chakraborty has passed away, on Thursday, after suffering from novel coronavirus. The 76-year-old popular communist leader breathed his last around 1.45 p.m today.
Shyamal Chakraborty was a senior trade union leader in West Bengal.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee tweeted “saddened at the passing away of veteran leader, former Member of Parliament and former Bengal minister Shyamal Chakroborty. My condolences to his family, friends and supporters”
Communist Party of India (Marxist) tweeted “CPI(M) expresses its deep sadness at the demise of Shyamal Chakroborty. Comrade Shyamal was a veteran trade union leader, former minister and Central Committee member of the CPI(M). Today the working class and the left movement in the country has lost an important voice”
CPIM leader and MLA Sujan Chakraborty said his passing away will create a huge void in the left politics in the state “He was a stalwart Left leader who shouldered important responsibilities in the trade union movement. It’s matter of great loss for the party. This is end of an era. Today he passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest”
The veteran leader had been suffering from old age related ailments for a very long-time. He was put on ventilator support from August 1 after breathing troubles.
However, On July 26, Comrade Shyamal Chakraborty wrote a controversial Facebook post on his verified account on Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh ,Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s Covid-19 positive news.
