Ajoy Dey, former MLA from Santipur, dies of COVID-19
He was admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata
Kolkata: Ajoy Dey, former Congress MLA and the administrator of Santipur Municipality, died of Covid-19 in Kolkata on Friday morning. He was 68 years old.
Ajoy Dey was the MLA of Santipur assembly constituency for 25 years. After the change of state, he joined ruling TMC. In the re-election of the assembly, he again won the seat on behalf of TMC. However, in 2016 assembly election, he lost to the Left-Congress candidate Arindam Bhattacharya. In 2021, he lost to BJP candidate Jagannath Sarkar by nearly 15,000 votes.
The former Santipur MLA had to undergo COVID test at Santipur hospital 15 days ago due to multiple symptoms. That’s where his report came in positive. Then he was in home isolation. However, his condition deteriorated and he was first admitted to Saktinagar District Hospital. But, due to alarming health condition, he was taken to a private hospotal in Kolkata. He breathed his last on Friday morning.
