Bengal : 16 were killed in Post-poll Violence

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, On Thursday, announced that all those who have died in post-poll violence in the state since the May 2 election results will be given compensation worth Rs.2 lakhs each ‘irrespective of party colour’.

Addressing the media, Bengal CM said “Rs.2 lakhs compensation will be given to each of the family, irrespective of their party colour”

She added “16 were killed in post-poll violence, half of whom are from TMC and half from BJP, one was from Sanjukta Morcha”

The BJP claimed that at least 14 of its party workers have been killed in the state since the May 2 election result declared TMC to have swept the poll.

“I can see some Central Ministers are coming here to provoke riots at a time when all political activities is curbed. There are always some sporadic incidents after election and that is why I announced no celebration” Mamata Banerjee added.

“It has not even been 24 hours since I have taken over and already letters and central teams are being sent” she further said.
