Pro Kabaddi League 2018- Full Auction Highlights

The auction for the sixth season of Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) 2018 came to a glorious end as five Indian players attracted bids worth more than Rs 1 crore to set a new record. Prashanth Kumar Rai was the most expensive player at Rs 79 Lakh was the costliest bid

The two-day auction process came to an on Thursday (May 31) in which all 12 franchises indulged in an intense bidding war to pick from a pool of 422 players.

The Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) 2018 Auction ended on Thursday. During the course of two days, 200 players were drafted into the 12 PKL teams for Pro Kabaddi League season 6.

The auction saw multiple records were broken in term of money spent and bids.

Haryana Steelers led the way with Rs 1.51 crore for raider Monu Goyat as Pro Kabaddi League teams splashed cash at the PKL 2018 player auction. Telugu Titans secured Rahul Chaudhary for Rs 1.29 crore.

Deepak Hooda and Nitin Tomar (Rs 1.15 crore each by Jaipur Pink Panthers and Puneri Palthans), Rishank Devadiga (Rs 1.11 crore by UP Yoddha) were the other highly-value purchases.

U Mumba bid Rs 1 crore for Iranian defensive ace Fazel Atrachali to make him the most expensive overseas player.

On day 2, Prashant Kumar Rai emerged the biggest buy with a bid of Rs 79 lakh by UP Yoddha. Chandran Ranjit was taken up by Dabang Delhi for Rs 61.25 lakh.

Pawan Kumar went to Bengaluru Bulls for Rs 52.8 lakh while Vikash Khandola was bought by Haryana Steelers for Rs 47 lakh. Dharmaraj Cheralathan went to U Mumba for Rs 46 lakh.  Dabang Delhi got Vishal Mane for Rs 45 lakh.

PKL 2018 Auction: Most Expensive players:

The franchises are now indulging in fierce bids to bag young as well as experienced players in their side to form a formidable side. One the first day of the auction as many as six players invited bids in excess of Rs 1 crore and set new records. Monu Goyat was bought by Haryana Steelers for a whopping sum of Rs 1.51 crore. While star raider Rahul Chaudhari was retained by his franchise Telugu Titans for a mammoth sum of Rs 1.29 crore as the intense bidding went between teams. Rishank Devadiga, Nitin Tomar and Deepak Niwas Hooda were the other three who entered the prestigious 1 crore club. Nitin Tomar – Rs 1.15 crore
Raider Nitin Tomar had shattered all records to emerge the costliest-ever player to be bought in the Pro Kabaddi League in the last season. He was bought for a whopping sum of Rs 93 lakh by UP Yoddha. This time as well he attracted a bid of Rs 1.15 crore by Puneri Paltan.

Deepak Niwas Hooda – Rs 1.15 crore
The former captain of Puneri Paltan wasn’t retained by his franchise but the all-rounder was bought by Patna Pirates for a huge amount of Rs 1.15 crore.

The star raider from Maharashtra was retained by his franchise UP Yoddha after they used FBM. The franchise spoilt the party of their competitors by retaining Devadiga.

Iran’s Fazel Atrachali became the first player in the history of the league to enter the 1 crore club after he was fetched by U Mumba. Intense bidding went for the defender, whose base prize was set at Rs 20 lakhs, but in the end U Mumba came out winners.

Fazel’s Iranian counterpart Abozar went to Telugu Titans for Rs 76 lakhs, while Jang Kun Lee returned to Bengal Warriors, who exercised their Final Bid Match card to retain him for Rs 33 lakhs. The auction for Indian players will take place later tonight. On the big purchase, U Mumba team owner, Ronnie Screwvala said, “We wanted to be strong in defence. We had an extremely strong defence in season 1 and season 2 and that was part of the reason why we bargained for Fazal so fiercely. Fazal is someone who has played with us and we are quite happy to have him back.” “We wanted to be sure that we got who we wanted rather than going right till the end and then have to hastily pick a player. You need a minimum of two international players, instead we picked three. We are happy to have the ex-Iranian coach Golan Raza as our coach and his insight helps us to pick international talents right in the beginning.” Fazel’s said that he was very happy to be back to his “second home – U Mumba.” “I have immense respect for the U Mumba team because it is where it all began for me. The fact that I beat the record for the highest bid in Pro Kabaddi is truly an incredible feeling,” he said.

On day two of the auction, Prasanth Kumar Rai – who was grabbed by UP Yoddha for a whopping amount of Rs 79 – emerged as the top pick. Chandran Ranjit (Rs 61.25 Lakh) attracted second highest bid on day two.

7 players from the Future Kabaddi Heroes (FKH) programme went under the hammer on Wednesday. Out of these, only 17 players were picked by the sides. A total of 58 foreign players went into the auction from 14 countries including Iran, Bangladesh, Japan, Kenya, Republic of Korea, Malaysia and Sri Lanka. The total salary purse available for each franchise is Rs four crore and a franchise may choose between 18-25 players to form a team.
