Bangladesh continued to show improvement

Dhaka : Just before Eid-ul-Fitr 2021, the Covid-19 situation in Bangladesh continued to show improvement as 1140 fresh infections were reported in the country on Wednesday. This is the lowest number of daily infections since March 14.

During the last 24 hours, 40 people succumbed to coronavirus taking the death toll to 12,045. The sample positivity rate was reported at 7.45%. The recovery rate in the country now stands at 92.39 percent, reported.

Bangladesh received 5 lakh doses of the Chinese Sinopharm coronavirus vaccine on Wednesday as gift. During the ceremony, Foreign Minister Dr A K Abdul Momen said in Dhaka that Bangladesh expects to purchase more vaccines from China. He said that earlier, the Bangladesh Government had some reservations on the Chinese vaccine as it was not approved by WHO.

Dr. Momen proposed that Bangladesh could go for coproduction of the vaccine which will be win-win situation for both the countries.

Meanwhile. the rush of people go to their respective home towns and villages to celebrate “Eid” claimed five lives in the country on Wednesday. In two separate incidents, four people lost their lives in stampedes on the overcrowded ferries on Shimulia-Banglabazar route in Munshiganj. Another young boy died due to heart stroke after falling sick on the ferry during the journey.
