New Coronavirus cases reported in Beijing
Beijing : Beijing reported its first domestically transmitted positive cases for novel coronavirus in eight weeks , raising concerns of possible second wave of COVID-19 in China. Local administration already shut down the Xinfadi wholesale market at 3 a.m (local time) on Saturday to curb the spread of Wuhan virus.
The move came after the market staffs tested positive for deadly virus. The virus was also found on a chopping board used for handling imported salmon.
Jungshen saefood market in Fengtai district where a confirmed positive case had visited was also closed. All relational people including customers and meat dealers have undergone swab sample tests. In total, six wholesale markets in Beijing suspended , or partially suspended , operations on Friday.
The two cases reported on Friday are colleagues from a meat research centre in Beijing Fengtai District, and they are receiving treatment at a designated COVID special hospital. One patient surname Liu , had traveled to Qingdao, for five days , while the other had no recent travel history , a Fengtai District official said on Friday.
According to Reuters report , Chu Junwei, , an official of Beijing’s Southwestern Fengtai District , told a briefing on Saturday that the district was in “Wartime emergency mode”
“Throat swabs from 45 people out of 517 tested at the district’s Xinfadi Wholesale market, had tested positive for the new coronavirus ,through none of them showed sysmptoms of COVID-19” he added.
