Rabbi Henry Sobel Dies at 75 in Miami
Digital Desk : Big sad news ! Rabbi Henry Sobel, the Americal-Brazilian Rabbi, President of the Israeli Congregation Paulista (CIP), died on the morning of Friday ,22nd November, at Miami, United States of America. He was 75 years old.
Rabbi Henry Sobel died of complications from Cancer. The burial will take place on Sunday, New York. Rabbi Emeritus of the Israeli Congregation Paulista (CIP) , Sobel stood out as a firm voice in defense of human rights in Brazil, with emphasis on his role in fighting for the clarification of the death of journalist Vladimir Herzog .Also of Jewis origin , when he was in power of the repressive organs of the Military Dictatorship in Sao Paulo in 1975.

Still in childhood , Sobel’s family settled in New York, where he graduated rabbi. From 1970, he settled in Brazil.
In 1975, Sobel refused to bury journalist Vladimir Herzog in the suicide wing of the Israeli Cemetery for rejecting the official version of the circumstances of journalist’s death. Rabbi Henry Sobel also joined leaders different faiths in an ecumenical act in honor of the journalist on October 31, 1975, a week after his murder in the Praca da Se.
