101 Freeway in Agoura Hills shuts down after motorists report firecrackers on highway: CHP
[ad_1]
The 101 Freeway in Agoura Hills shut down in both directions Thursday night, after motorists reported seeing firecrackers being thrown onto the highway, the California Highway Patrol said.
All lanes of the freeway were closed from the Palo Comado bridge overpass to Chesebro Road, the CHP said in a tweet around 9 p.m.
The freeway was temporarily reopened just after 9:23 p.m., but the Chesebro offramp remained closed.
At around 9:54 p.m., the agency said any open lanes would shut down again for the investigation.
The City of Agoura Hills said in a tweet that the Palo Comado Interchange remained closed as of 10 p.m., including all ramps, due to a suspicious package on the bridge.
However, CHP could not confirm and said they had received reports of a person dropping fireworks onto the freeway, prompting the lane closures.
Law enforcement was awaiting the arrival of an explosives unit, and closures were expected to last at least one more hour, the city said.
The freeway mainline remains open and motorists were advised to stay away from the area until further notice.
