Deadly car crash near Floyd Bennett field
New York : A tragic night in Brooklyn. A boy and two teenagers were reportedly killed after a bad car crash near Floyd Bennett field on late Saturday. Four other teens injured, one still in critical condition. Sources say Drag racing may have been to blame. Investigation is underway.
The deadly crash took place around 8:15 p.m on Aviation road, which cuts through federal park land at Floyd Bennett field, killing the boy and two teenagers, WPIX-TV News reported Sunday.
Among the dead, police reported, were two young men, ages 16 and 11, and 18-year-old young woman. A fourth teen, 17, is in critical condition at Lutheran Medical Centre, police said.
Police from the NYPD collision investigation squad and federal police from Gateway National Recreational Area was probing whether the teens were drag racing or doing high speed antics on the long runway that is part of the Gateway National Park system at Floyd Bennett field, the city’s first municipal airport, AMNY reported .
However, three people in the second vehicle involved in the deadly crash said to be stable condition.
According to police report, the three deceased victims were riding in a 2020 Toyota traveling at a high speed west bound on the 440 Runway of Floyd Bennett field. The car then smashed into the driver’s side of a Kia Forte travelling at a high speed along Taxiway C.
Police now say the preliminary investigation found that the Kia was operated by 16-year-old , now dead. The other car victims were not yet identified.
