A person was taken into custody Sunday afternoon after gun shot activity was reported near the main Azusa Pacific University campus in Azusa, the college reported in a tweet.

The “police emergency” was reported about 12:38 p.m near the main campus, which is located at 901 E. Alosta Ave. in Azusa. APU tweeted that the emergency required “police action” and said there was a large police presence, but did not provide further details about what transpired.

In a tweet, university officials urged the public to be vigilant.

“Please shelter in place, stay indoors, and away from windows. Additional instructions to follow,” APU stated in a series of tweets.

At 2:45 p.m., university officials said the campus still “remains an active scene,” with the shelter-in-place orders still in effect. Shortly after, the university said a person had been taken into custody by the Azusa Police Department and the scene was cleared.

It’s unknown is anyone was wounded.

No other information was immediately released.
